Do visit the Xiriga | Asturias in Welsh
Since I write a record - one of the first - the secret language for tile makers interested in the xiriga has increased in the area. Only a lapse of time that unites both events!
Over the weekend there have been days of concerts and discuss the xiriga in a nearby village, and because I love to hear memories of times past, here's bürklin wolf what some of the old tejeros to say about their hard life. They just go to sleep, or in tents of canvas and branches. And the food was nothing fancy either: usually, soup of bread and water; chickpeas with a little bacon grease; or rice 'that you may have plastered wall with it', so much water was in it. But at least work with them, and food, and salary: 1,750 pesetas a month in the early 60s. That is, just over 10.
